A Decade

The end of June marks my ten year anniversary working at my current job. Wow! is all I can say.  I am so grateful for the job I have and how good they are to work with a working Mom....asking for more hours....asking for less hours.....I have not been an easy employee to have around all these years ;)
Over the past ten years, many other employees have come and gone.  Quite a few are counted among my most treasured life long friends.  What a privilege it has been to have them in my life.  Some that have gone I still keep in contact with.  How fun!  I love the people I work with - I mean how can you resist a group of people that have put up with you for ten long years, ha ha!
I had a huge surprise last Monday on my desk! (well, this isn't my desk but it had to be moved for picture purposes ;) but this is my 'corner')

Thank you so much guys!  You made my year!  My 'summer' sign has a new home on the end of my cupboard in the kitchen.  It's perfect and so are all of you.  I mean who else would be prepared to lock a girl in the bathroom if she came out before the surprise was ready?  Now that's true friendship!

A little Exotic

Have you ever been in the grocery store and have come upon an unusual looking fruit or vegetable and had your curiosity peaked?  No?  Well, I have...and my most recent tiny obsession with the show on Food Network 'Chopped' has brought these interesting fruits and veggies to my attention.  I started seeing fruits in the store that I had heard of on the show, which are always a little different and not well heard of.
Anyway, I thought it might be fun to try a new 'fruit' each week this summer.  Last year Kenna organized our 'try all 31 flavors' (there are actually more you know :) at Baskin Bobbins - which was a blast but I thought we needed a little more healthy challenge this year :o)

The biggest drawback so far is that a fruit coming from Thailand or New Zealand...tends to not be the same as you might find it in it's native country.  Many are over ripe and probably don't taste like they should but it is still fun to research and learn about the fruit - and the funny face pictures I am getting are true keepers, ha ha, so here's is to our summer of fruit!

A little hiccup

Bump in the road, snag, hiccup, off track, glitch, impediment, hold up, wrench, tight spot, pickle.....all these words have found their way into my life in the past two years.  And when I take a moment to reflect...that's ok.
As my dear carpenter and his assistant began to hang cabinet doors this weekend...we came upon a little hiccup, snag, uh pickle if you will.  The drilling for the brackets were off just enough that several set's of doors wouldn't shut all the way.  Total bummer.  BUT, aahhh, you see there must a l w a y s be a bright side to ones pickle.  And here is mine:
A few cupboard doors hung.  Ahh, completion.  It's grand I tell you.  The remaining 12 doors are going back to the manufacturer to hopefully be fixed and not have to be redone totally.

I ponder sometimes if I would have the same joy and appreciation if we had someone do all the work and I was doing something else with my life these past two years.  I like to think that yes, I would.  It's all about enjoying the journey I guess.  No matter how many snags, glitches or impediments you might find yourself enjoying ;)
